Career Goal Narrative
My name is Cooper Ferris. I have been in the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center for a year now. I have been very focused on learning this past school year and am excited to continue learning more about the engineering field. In my 9th grade year I took AP computer science which has helped me so far in the coding portion in the engineering program. The field of study I want to pursue right now is aerospace and/or electrical engineer. Aerospace a great choice for me because I have always been interested in aircraft designs. I am very interested in aerospace engineering because my dad has worked on the V-22, H-53K platforms doing contracts and program management. These conversations I have had interested me to go into aerospace engineering. Starting my year two engineering program I have thought more about electrical engineering. I have done more research on both of these carrer paths. I have always had an intrest with more hands on understanding circuits.
My interest in the engineering program started with building my own robot when I was around the age of 9. The robot was 4 foot tall, had motors that moved the arms and wheels on the feet to get around. I always thought I would be able to do my homework that ended up being false when I put the paper up to its face. I had to go through the building process of making sure the robot was piece by piece built together correctly. It took me a total of a week to build it which I was very proud about since it was the first thing I had really ever built.
My second Interest was building my own computer. When I was thirteen years old I built my first ever computer. Christmas was coming up so I asked for a bunch of computer components. I did all of my research 3 months before I was even able to get some of the parts. I did my research on how to build the PC and more research on what parts would best fit my first computer. I started and some parts were complicated but I figured it out. It took me only 4 hours to do it and then I had a running computer. I was very proud of myself for completing the build in such a short time.
Entering this program will give me the education I need to start pursuing the different aspects of engineering. This program will help me to grow in my and further my interest in the study of Aerospace and/or Electrical Engineering. This is my first step into pursuing this career path which is why I want to continue my education in the engineering program at Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center.
Next step I hope to enter an internship in the summer months to gain more knowledge. I hope this will prepare me as I enter college. After my high school graduation I am planning on going to college for an education in engineering to further my education to get a high paying job. Once I have reached my future goal I will build and find new and improved ways to fly aircrafts. I feel like this is a very interesting career to help improve in our new age future of Aerospace Engineering and Electrical engineering
