WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will:
Create a short story
Organize it using a Story Map
Present your story orally to the class
PHASE 1 – CREATE YOUR STORY (2%)
You will create your story in class.
Your teacher will guide you.
Your story must include:
Characters
A problem (conflict)
Important events
An ending
You will also use connectors (your teacher will explain which ones).
PHASE 2 – ELABORATE YOUR STORY (2%)
Create your story. Polish details and fill up gaps in the information.
Use the posters on the wall to help you:
plot
mood
tone
theme
protagonist
antagonist
characterization
point of view
conflict
climax
resolution
setting
Include connectors in your ideas.
PHASE 3 – ORAL PRESENTATION (6%)
Time: 5 minutes
You must SPEAK, not read
1. STRUCTURE OF YOUR PRESENTATION
You must organize your presentation like this:
Part 1 – Introduction
Say the title of your story
Describe the setting
Introduce the protagonist
Example:
“My story is called… It takes place in… The protagonist is…”
Part 2 – Story Development
You must clearly explain:
The conflict
The main events (plot)
The climax
The resolution
You must also mention at least 4 of these elements:
protagonist
antagonist
conflict
climax
resolution
setting
mood
tone
theme
point of view
You must say them explicitly. Example:
“The conflict in my story is…”
“The climax happens when…”
Part 3 – Closing
Explain the theme of your story
Give a short conclusion
Example:
“In a nutshell, the theme of my story is…”
2. CONNECTORS (MANDATORY)
You must use at least 5 connectors during your presentation:
owing to
hence
thereby
notwithstanding
furthermore
thereafter
whereas
in a nutshell
albeit
You must use them while speaking, not just write them.
Example:
“He was afraid; nevertheless, he continued.”
“The problem was serious; hence, he had to act.”
3. IMPORTANT RULES
You cannot read your story
You may only use your Story Map as support
You must speak clearly and loudly
You must show that you understand your story
Visual Aids are a must. They will be projected for you to use.
4. WHAT WILL BE EVALUATED
Your ability to explain your story clearly
Your use of connectors
Your use of literary elements
Your speaking (fluency and clarity)
FINAL REMINDER
If you only memorize or read, it will be obvious.
If you understand your story, your presentation will be much easier.
