Sabina Guzzanti is an Italian satirist, writer–director, and actor from Rome whose career spans television, feature documentaries, stage, books, and a very online presence. Trained at the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica Silvio D’Amico, she broke out on Italian TV in the late ’80s and ’90s (from La TV delle ragazze to L’ottavo nano) with razor-edged impressions and political monologues. In 2003 her one-episode RAI 3 show Raiot – Armi di distrazione di massa was pulled after lampooning then–Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi—an episode that set up her international profile as a free-speech crusader and led to her hit documentary Viva Zapatero! (2005), which drew ovations in Venice and traveled to Sundance and Tribeca. WikipediaWikipedia+1

Across film, Guzzanti writes, directs, and often stars. The run includes Bimba – È clonata una stella (2002), Viva Zapatero! (2005), Le ragioni dell’aragosta (2007), Draquila – L’Italia che trema (2010), Franca, la prima (2011), La trattativa (The State-Mafia Pact, 2014), and Spin Time – Che fatica la democrazia! (2021), which documents the “Spin Time” occupied building in Rome and its social experiment in grassroots democracy. Wikipedia+1IMDbcgtv.it
As an author, she’s extended her satire into speculative fiction with HarperCollins Italia: 2119. La disfatta dei Sapiens (2021) and ANonniMus. Vecchi rivoluzionari contro giovani robot (2023)—comic, near-future parables about technology, power, and generational politics. She tours stage shows (recently Liberidì Liberidà), appears on conversation series and podcasts, and keeps up a steady flow of commentary and sketches across social platforms. Guzzanti’s work threads together political satire, investigative curiosity, and performance—often targeting media capture, corruption, and the anatomy of civic life. Viva Zapatero! remains a reference point in debates on Italian public broadcasting and censorship; Draquila interrogated post-earthquake governance; La trattativa dramatized the “state–mafia” negotiations; and Spin Time zoomed in on housing, migration, and community—right down to the Vatican’s unusual role in keeping the lights on.
