Sir Bhavsinhji Polytechnic Institute, Bhavnagar is one of the premier Government institutes in the field of Diploma Technical Education since its inception on 1949. It has many branches of diploma engineering. Computer aided costume design & dress making department has been established in the year 1978. It has 30 intakes. 30 students take admission in this program every year. The department puts constant efforts to pursue successful career of the students in the fields of fashion designing, quality assurance and sales promotion. The Department has evolved with a focus on preparing students for managing boutique or enterprise and changing fashion trends addressing societal and environmental needs.
In this program, different subjects related to fiber to garment manufacturing technology, apparel designing by hand and help of computer software such as CorelDraw, photoshop, Illustrator etc., Textile technology, Traditional textile of India, garment export, Business management are being taught.
The department has an experienced and dedicated faculty to guide and advise students, they are always ready to help and solve all queries of students. The curriculum is designed for benefit of students and focused on outcome-based education (OBE) pattern, with an ease of modifying and updating the curriculum of the courses as per the need of the society and industry. In this system knowledge should be constantly updated. The department is always trying to help slow learner students through additional make up classes, assignments, counselling etc. and encouraging bright students also.
The department has good laboratories like clothing lab, computer lab, textile lab and drawing lab for practicing to acquire the technical expertise required for molding them to become entrepreneurs or getting employment in garment industry. The department always strives for creativity and innovation for successful education.
Industrial visits, expert talks, workshops etc. are organizes to keep the students updated from Techno World. Internships are made mandatory for students to get in touch with the industry which definitely prepares the students for the industry. The department organizes industrial training for students after the completion of fourth semester. So, the students get complete idea about process of the industry. The department is organizing an annual exhibition cum sale of the term work prepared by the students and fashion show of garments designed by them. It helps in developing the entrepreneurship and other skills of the students. The program is not primarily only a textbook-curriculum program, but students who choose this course are taught to become stronger and develop by imparting extensive knowledge and skills in the subjects of Computer Aided Costume Design and Dress making.
Future Plan
Department will
1. Conduct placement camp in Institute for job opportunities in the industry/ Boutique.
2. Develop more entrepreneurial skills in students through expert lectures, industry visits, training, mini project etc.
3. Increase collection of books in E-Library and we will motivate students to use this facility.
4. Organize a greater number of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for overall development of students.
