Students will engage in discussions, food tastings, projects, field trips, a film festival, games, and exercises designed to teach the art of communicating across cultures. How do we get our ideas across when communicating with people from cultures that are different than ours? Take intercultural communication SPE215 to learn about and develop strong intercultural skills.
The course does NOT take deep dives into specific cultures. Many students think this is a course for you will learn the details of different cultures. While you will get some of this, learning general interpersonal skills and communication is helpful in cross-cultural situations. Essentially, you will learn about and practice communication skills practical in education, business, medical, travel, religious, and community situations that require interacting with people from an unfamiliar culture.

Former Student: I thought this course was going to teach us the specifics of a bunch of cultures. It was a requirement of the dental hygiene program, I wasn't really looking forward to it. But then on day one I realized what a fun course this was going to be. I learned so much about communicating with people. I feel like a changed person after taking this course.
