Apartment Selection
Apartment selection is your opportunity to choose an available apartment at South Campus Commons or the Courtyards based on your Priority Group and appointment time. Keep in mind that an apartment selection appointment does not guarantee that a space will be available when your appointment begins. Students with earlier Priority Groups will select apartments first, so the number and types of available spaces will change throughout the selection process.
Before Your Appointment
Check the Vacancy List
About 10 minutes before your appointment, visit the Vacancy List in MyDRL and identify 5-10 apartments that you and your group would be interested in. Available spaces are separated into Male and Female lists. If every bedroom in an apartment is available, that apartment will appear on both lists. The Vacancy List is expected to be available on or around Tuesday, February 17.
You may also see some spaces marked with a "Special Attribute". These apartments required an additional addendum for specific circumstances, such as living with an RA or an apartment with ADA modifications. If you select one of these spaces, you will complete the applicable addendum when you sign your lease.
Review the Apartment Selection Resources
Before your appointment, take some time to review the information on this page, including apartment layouts, installment payment information, sample leases, and apartment attributes. This will help you and your group decide which spaces you would like to consider. We also recommend that you review the most recent Commons/Courtyards Apartment Selection Webinar, hosted by the Department of Resident Life.
At Your Appointment
Your Apartment Selection appointment gives you the opportunity to select from the apartments that are available at the time of your appointment. Appointment times are assigned based on Priority Groups, so students in earlier Priority Groups will have access to available spaces first. Accepting an apartment selection appointment does not mean that you are required to sign a lease. However, if you choose an apartment during your appointment, you will be required to sign a lease for the space you select.
After Your Apartment Selection Appointment
If you choose an apartment, there are a few things you will need to complete to finalize your selection.
Sign and initial your lease (including your Social Security number) and complete the confirmation page through DocuSign by Monday, February 22, 2027 at 12PM EST.
Have your Guarantor complete the applicable guarantor form.
Submit the $300 lease reservation payment. A separate payment link for your selected site (Commons/Courtyards) will be sent to all leaseholders on or around February 22, 2027, with payment due by Thursday, April 1, 2027 at 12PM EST.
All lease and guarantor documents will be sent through DocuSign. Your payment link will be sent separately, and will not be included in the DocuSign email. You will only need to make a payment if you select an apartment and sign a lease. If you do not select an apartment, no payment is due.
A valid Social Security number (SSN) is required to sign a lease at South Campus Commons or the Courtyards at UMD. International students who do not have an SSN should enter their University Identification Number (UID) instead. International students without a guarantor must email a copy of their 1-20 to the Commons or Courtyards Leasing Office within 24 hours of signing their lease. Failure to provide a valid 1-20 in that window may result in a lease being voided.
