Commit To Self is a one of a kind spiritual consultancy cum one on one spiritual mentoring service. We are the first spiritual and mental health services platform which says that anxiety and depression are not bad. Depression is the path to spiritual growth, creativity and life purpose.
We believe that spirituality is all about authenticity and vulnerability. Spirituality is about finding our centre and paying attention to our own selves. Spirituality is also about knowing that everyone and everything is connected. We teach this through our workshops which are designed for the inner discovery.
We provide one on one spiritual mentoring service for inner growth. We believe that we get mental health issues and physical health issues when (a) we deviate from our centre or (b) when we are not learning what we need to learn from any particular life situation and instead suppress them with medicines and forced positive thinking. It’s important to know that everything that happens to us has a reason, which we aren’t always aware of.
The solution to these problems lies in knowing who we are and how we function. We need to know the core functioning of mind, body and spirit. We have to know how these three are interconnected into one seamless being that we are. We don’t give you solutions. We empower you to find your own solutions to your own issue. Hence, our take on physical and mental health issues stands different from most primary health care providers. We offer this wisdom through our workshops which are designed for this inner discovery to happen organically.
There are two types of workshops that we do –
1. Knowledge based – These workshops provide knowledge to the workshop attendees about any particular topic empowering them to use this knowledge for their own growth at their own pace and convenience.
2. Experience based – These workshops are catered to give the attendees a direct experience of a healing modality.
Through these workshops, we give people knowledge to evolve through depression and other painful mental and physical health issues into individuals who use these difficult times to learn the hardest yet the most life changing lessons of their life.
We also run some mentoring programs which are a combination of therapy and spiritual coaching. These programs not only help you release and let go of old redundant patterns but they also help you in building a version of you that you want.
Generally, the mental health crisis sets in when we experience some kind of a loss in our life. Example – Loss of a job, loss of a relationship, death of a loved one or loss of health. We start feeling anxious, depressed and we seek to find our answers in life. We might visit a therapist or read books. We try to heal ourselves of the hurt but it doesn’t seem to go. We feel a release but it doesn’t change our lives forever. We feel stuck and don’t find answers anywhere. The question always is - how to get out of where I am?
We are a spirit using a mind and a body. We are pure energy beings. If there is an issue in the body, there is sure to be an issue in the mental and spiritual health of the person. If we feel spiritually disconnected with the purpose of our life, we will feel emotionally drained, lost and confused and further we will feel physically drained of energy and even a small amount of work will feel emotionally and physically demanding.
The issue is that we have dissected our mental, physical and spiritual health into three different individual parts even though there is enough evidence that it works in tandem. Our medical science understands the body very well but they are yet to integrate emotional and spiritual learning to ensure quick recovery of the diseased. A lot of hospitals in America allow spiritual healers to directly work with terminally ill patients. Read about one such story here - https://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/20/us/20shaman.html. Similar policy level changes are not seen in the Indian context, currently.
However, at “Commit To Self”, we firmly believe that mental, spiritual and physical health is related. Well, it’s not just related, it works in tandem to restore harmony in our system. Our vision is to spread this knowledge among people and provide people with customised solutions to their unique issue. Our vision is to create an army of people who lead from within and who lead a life of purpose. We are building a community of people who can tune into themselves and then change first from with-in and then with-out.
The human consciousness is in a very tough and vulnerable time. There are civil wars, autocratic regimes, children are being taken away from their parents, women and children are being raped, the number of divorces has sky rocketed, sibling rivalries are rampant, mass shooting in schools by teenagers is not shocking anymore, incidence of physical and mental abuse are common place, road rage is everywhere, phew, we are a plagued generation . If not anything, we have a war inside us. There is little room for joy when you have so much suffering around.
We are in a time when human consciousness is re-evaluating its presence on its earth. We are evolving from being a species that just eats, sleeps; mate’s and takes care of its survival to species who seeks a higher purpose in everyday life. We are asking deeper questions. We are seeking answers. We are frenzy-ing around to find that one thing, that bliss point which will make us whole again. We are truly moving up the Maslo’s Hierarchy of Needs.
“Am I the only one who is feeling this? The world looks happy. It seems like everyone around me has gotten it right. Why can’t I be happy like them? Why am I the only one asking these questions? Why can’t I just be happy with what I have? People would give up anything for the lifestyle I have. I don’t understand what I am running for. I don’t even know if what I want is achievable. Damn it! Where am I with all of this running in my head?”
We feel an imbalance. We feel like we are not complete. There is something missing. There is something we must have or do to feel complete. Something seems to be amiss in this otherwise picture perfect existence of ours. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what.
Sometimes we get into a spiritual search, meditation and yoga feels just the right thing when so many people around us seem to be doing it and when there is so much spiritual content available so easily. Sometimes we look for this in our relationships, may be a perfect significant other might be the answer for my longing and incompleteness. Sometimes we look for this in a makeover of looks, “let me get my hair straightened, let me sport that cool sneakers and the world will be flattered”. Sometimes we change our lifestyle and dietary habits. “Enough is enough; from now on I am going to eat only healthy, no cheesy fries and extra cheese pizza, no binge watching TV shows and no going to bed at 2 AM”. We change career, we quit our well paying jobs to achieve our own dreams, “may be a new start up will help me actualize my full potential”.
We put in so many efforts to feel a certain fulfilled way. We run after everything that feels like would give us that satisfaction but when we achieve it, it’s either short lived or not what we were looking for. However, somewhere, we have a belief of there being something, which will give us the FULFILLMENT we are looking for. Not something short lived, but something deeper, something which connects us to our inner core, something which allows us to use our fullest potential for our own benefit and for the benefit of the people around us.
Yet, we bump into so many wrong paths. Yet, we are not able to find it. We are pushed to take U-turns which lead us only to the crossroads. The struggle is real.
