Lesson Ideas

  • Bring in a tub of clothes that are donated. Have a competition on best dressed, inappropriate dress, why attire may be appropriate/inappropriate and hold discussions throughout. Grade each other on a rubric.

  • Have students sit on interview committee for new staff. Great teachable moments!

  • Sign-up Genius for community/school members to come in to critique resumes, mock interviews, etc. one-on-one with students. Here is the email template to send to professionals.

Bring your A-Game to Work is a great pay-for curriculum to learn about work behaviors

Interview Fridays - students team up and win stickers (very motivating). Have list of common questions, switch role as interviewer and interviewee. They are timed and the process has grown to a collaborative effort in giving valuable feedback and developing articulate responses. Could have a team of 4 with 2 students evaluating the interview.

CTSO class that is PBL - i.e. community and connection - built out on an interest (personal passion projects). Starts in the classroom, then grows to a school-wide project, to a community project. Fundraisers to include creating snow globes, open mic night. Marketing is part of the planning process. Great opportunities to build a resume and because it is student led, there is a lot of buy-in.
