Mochy and Phil have been running camps and lessons and programs for school
kids in their own countries (Japan and US) for years and decided that there
is no reason why the rest of the world can't do the same. So they created
the International Collegiate Backgammon Championships to provide a place
WHERE students under 26 can compete for scholarships and prizes.
Mochy（望月正行プロ）とPhil Simborgは、それぞれ日米での長年にわたる学生の為のバッ
クギャモンキャンプ・レッスン・プログラムを行った経験から、他の国々でも同じ事が出来ないはずがないと考えています。そこで、
26歳未満の学生が奨学金や賞品を得る為に競い合う場としての世界学生選手権を設立する運びとなりました。
Through the generosity of many in the backgammon community, over $10,000 in
scholarship funds and dozens of prizes including books, software, lessons
and backgammon supplies have been donated to support the program.

Safe Harbor Games and BackgammonAce have donated the use of their sites and
apps to host 16 qualifying events which will ultimately produce two
finalists who will compete in a live finals at a major tournament, all
expenses paid.

In addition to the 16 major qualifying events there will be special team
and country competitions and coaching and videos produce by Mochy and Phil
and the certified teachers of TheBackgammonLearningCenter.com.

Every major backgammon federation has pledged to cooperate and participate
and it is our hope that this will be an on-going program sponsored and
supported and run by the federations. Mochy and Phil have pledged their
leadership and support for years to come.

Many have asked us about the structure of the world championships. We are
waiting until we meet with our steering committee, which consists of a
representative of every major backgammon Federation in the world, to set
actual events and dates. We envision regular on-line competition, team
events, and a ladderboard to take place in a dedicated room in
SafeHarborGames, and we will run regular events as well on the backgammon
app, BackgammonAce. We hope to offer some prizes and pre-qualifying points
for these events, and eventually hold an international on-line qualifying
event to get it down to 8 or 4 semi-finalists. They will then compete in
another on-line event which will be monitored to end up with two finalists.
多数の方から世界選手権の形式について質問を頂いています。日時などの詳細は、全てのメジャーなバックギャモン連盟の代表で構成
される運営委員会と話し合って決定することになります。構想としては、SafeHarborGamesでのオンライン対戦やチー

We will then send the two finalists to a major event somewhere in the world
in 2017...and we hope to rotate this event every year or two...it can be
Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, Istanbul, Japan, Nordic, London, Berlin, Cyprus,
Gibraltar or any other major city and event in Backgammon. We will pay for
the expenses for the finalists and award scholarships to the winners.

We hope to include high school students as well, and we hope to have
separate prizes and possibly college scholarships for them as well.

In addition to scholarship money, we hope to have donations of other prizes
which will be exciting for the children. Some have already made offers
which we have accepted and will publicize as soon as we get our web site
and social media programs in place.

The most important side effect of this program is that we hope to see
hundreds, and possibly some day thousands of school children playing
backgammon on a regular basis, and with help and encouragement from
Federations all over the world, and free teaching videos and instruction
from Mochy, Phil Simborg, Bill Robertie and others, we expect many of these
players to become fine, dedicated, long-term tournament players.

Backgammon is a wonderful game for children as it helps them learn and
understand math and probability, but it also prepares them for life in many
other ways. Backgammon builds character in teaching children how to deal
with good and back luck, winning and losing, uncertainty, and provides an
opportunity to meet and compete with other children and adults all over the
world.

To be eligible for the International Collegiate Backgammon Championships
you must be under 26 years of age and a full-time college student, high
school student, or lower, as of January 1, 2017.

As a member you will be eligible to compete in the Collegiate Room on
SafeHarborgames.net and on BackgammonAce for prizes. We will also offer
teaching sessions and team competitions by country.

We encourage you all to join your country's backgammon federation - most
offer discount memberships for students, and many will help provide
additional coaching and support. (If there is not a federation in your
country, you will be encouraged to become a member of a nearby country's
federation.) We will ask federations to assign a "mentor" to help you with
your game and answer any questions you might have about the game or
competition.

Beginning in the fall of 2016 and throughout most of 2017 we will be
running qualifying events in order to end up with 8 players who will then
compete to become a finalist. The two finalists will be invited to a live
event at the end of 2017 or early 2018, all expenses paid, and both players
will receive significant prizes including scholarship money for school.
