Types of Learners

Drago-Severson and Blum-DeStefano (2016) explain that “Understanding the developmental landscape-for both ourselves and for others-can help us better build the human capacity that will enable us to meet and exceed the demands of teaching and leading today” (p.75). By attending to and valuing developmental diversity among our colleagues, we can apply our knowledge of the stages of adult development to help us navigate common obstacles when giving and receiving feedback.

TRAFFIC ALERT!

This sign symbolizes types of learners in collegial feedback because of its function to alert drivers of the different types of paths coming up in the roundabout.

STAGES OF ADULT DEVELOPMENT

(The Learner's Toolbox, 2013)

Providing and receiving feedback is a complex process. It requires adults to actively make sense of their realities while adapting personal developmental orientations to support and challenge others. Understanding developmental diversity can make giving and receiving collegial feedback more actionable and authentic.
