About the Authors

Dr. Anna coats

Anna holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Butler University (2007). She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina State University (2013) and a Master of School Administration from Campbell University (2015). She also earned her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (2022) from Gardner-Webb University.

Anna is currently a middle grades math coach. She is licensed in K-6 Elementary Education, Curriculum Instructional Specialist, Reading K-12, Mathematics 6-9, and Academically Gifted Education. She has been an educator since 2007, as a 4th grade teacher, elementary instructional coach, and middle school instructional coach prior to her current role in middle grades math.

Anna is currently researching instructional coaching with a passion to support teachers in their journeys.

Shaunee Howard

Shaunee holds a Bachelor of Education from Methodist University (2005). She holds a Master of Education from Methodist University (2014) and is a licensed Reading Specialist grades K-12. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University. Her research interests include the facilitation of teacher wellness programs in the school setting and the impact teacher wellness has on student learning outcomes.

Shaunee is a licensed teacher in North Carolina and has spent over 13 years in the classroom teaching kindergarten through sixth grade. She was nominated Ferguson-Easley Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year in 2016-17 where she taught third grade for three years. Shaunee spent time as an instructional coach for an elementary school and is currently an instructional coach at R. Max Abbott Middle School. She coaches all core subjects in grades 6-8.





Dr. Kevin ward

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Music in K-12 Instrumental Music Education from The University of Tennessee at Martin (2008). He holds a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University (2010), a Master Certificate from Berklee College of Music in Arranging and Orchestration (2017), and a North Carolina School Administration Add-On Certification (2020). He also earned his Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (2022) from Gardner-Webb University.

Currently, Kevin is a Professional Development Coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. He builds capacity for blended learning and empowers educators to train others. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC.

In addition to teaching, Kevin is on the Board of Directors for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. He also spent eight years as an active duty musician in the U.S. Army and still currently serves with the 208th Army Band in Concord, NC. Research interests include: music education, effective feedback, assessment tools, formative and summative assessment.
