Welcome
Welcome
This is my personal website where I try out ideas before I use them on other websites I look after
So you will find a odd assortment of pictures, text & Links
I arrived at this building in 1974 and left in 2015
Happy Days
Liverpool Polytechnic Students 1970
I am a retired University (Polytechnic) biological sciences laboratory technician, and have used computers from the days of DOS & 286’s. This does not make me an expert – in fact I find modern computing more complex and irritating
I create & maintain websites and Apps for small local groups.
Below are few links to examples of my work
My advice for any small club / society / indivdual
I would avoid creating apps - They look great and do amazing things- then change and you have wasted your time
Wordpress - it seems to be the one to use, everone else uses it.
Avoid - its far to compelex

My Wordpress site
The Fruit Trees in a walled garden, at Dibbinsdale Nature reserve
The Friends of Port Sunlight River Park.
A former landfill site now a nature reserve, on the River Mersey.
Wordpress paid for. I took over this website but there are many setting that I cannot update
The Friends of Port Sunlight River Park - History Trail https://sites.google.com/view/portsunlightriverpark-history
Hosted for free on Google Sites. This demonstrates the power of Google sites. TOTALY FREE.
The Friends of Port Sunlight River Park
App trail developed using Geotourist https://geotourist.com/tours/4097
Although now I would just use QR code links to webpages.
Like the excellent Welsh history site https://historypoints.org/
This gives more control, for example there was a period when GeoTourist made it far too complicated for visitors to use.
The History Points use of QR codes is really interesting. One takes you to the webpage with information and pictures. The other QR code just contains data, you do not need an internet connection for this to work. (about 4000 letters)
The Friends of Port Sunlight River Park
Printed guide, education packs & display boards produced in collaboration with a great local Graphic Design Company Neatnik Designs
Its easy to think computers and screens are the only way. Until you want to look at something and it doesnot work.
Mayer Park, Bebington, Wirral
A small urban park, in part a Victorian Garden but gradually expanded.
I created this website originally as a Friends of Mayer Park Website. But they never really gave me any information. They have a facebook page.
So decided to make it my own website about Mayer Park and some general Bebington local history.
I also created a Tree Trail App for the park using the IZI Travel app
https://izi.travel/browse/772f8457-a5b1-4d7d-96b4-a6ebb60d94d1/en
See comments about the Geotourist App.
This app randomly opens on my phone.
I had a few people send me bits, but most people are very reluctant to share a story. Its a great loss.
I am going to move some stuff from this to the Mayer Park website

Although sometimes you have the opposite. At the Wirral History & Heritage Association Fair in 2021, a local man Glynn Parry said he has some photographs and documents related to Bromborough Pool.
