Coen joined our research group, PTSG, at MSU during his freshman year in the fall of 2022 and was co-mentored by myself and the postdoc, Dr. De-Qi Wen. Coen's project regarded scaling laws and surface electron emission interactions within an RF micro-plasma using simulation codes xpdp1 and oopd1. De-Qi primarily assisted with the science and overarching goal and plan of the project as directed by our PI, Dr. John Verboncoeur, whereas I aided Coen with guidance regarding data analysis, streamlining and organization of the research tasks, the smaller details and resulting questions of the project, and career guidance.
That career guidance was in the form of explaining possible paths and how to best accomplish them, as well as tips of surviving and thriving in undergrad, especially as a first-semester freshman. Ultimately, Coen and I realized that physics research was not his passion at all and parted ways in the fall of 2023. I helped him find his passion, digital media and art, which is now his major.
