THE ART OF STORYTELLING THROUGH PRESERVATION

COLDWASH47 explores the connections and relationships that already exist between ordinary objects, textiles, places and people.

Textiles are not simply commodities. They are evidence of trade, migration, industry, politics and culture. They carry history. They travel across oceans, through skies and across borders, moving through vast networks and systems before becoming part of our everyday lives and each have a unique story to share.  They carry history, hidden truths, evidence of its previous life.

Where they come from, how they travelled, who moved them, who profited from them, and how they eventually became part of our lives.

But the circumstances, power dynamics, and economic conditions they travel are very different and rarely equal. 

COLDWASH47 examines the global systems and networks that shape these relationships — through trade, conflict and politics.  A global system / An entire industry /  dependant / reliant on constant / continuos / mass production and over consumption.

And perpetuated by mass media, pop culture and adverting.
