CULTURE NEVER STANDS STILL.

It travels. It's traded, borrowed, stolen, shared, forgotten and reinvented / and preserved.

REMNANTS is an exploration into the connections and relationships between people and place, culture and identity, through waste textiles, discarded materials and found objects.

Using material as a means of investigating the networks, systems, histories and cultural exchanges embedded within the objects

It begins with the ordinary things that surround us — garments, fabrics, patterns, materials and objects — and asks where they come from, how they travelled, what they mean, and what stories they carry.

Objects and textiles move across borders and generations through complex networks of history, trade, conflict, migration, industry and politics. Yet the circumstances, power dynamics and economic conditions through which they travel are rarely equal.

I trace these journeys, following materials, garments, techniques and visual languages across time and place. I look at how they are exchanged, adapted, commercialised, discarded and reinterpreted — and how their meanings change as they move between cultures.

These objects become evidence: traces of previous lives and physical records of the cultures, economies and systems that shaped them. They carry histories, hidden stories and the marks of the circumstances through which they have travelled.

Through experimentation, reconstruction and material manipulation, existing garments are deconstructed, discarded materials are given new purpose, traditional techniques are reinterpreted and historical references are translated into contemporary silhouettes.

Nothing is treated as isolated. Every material has a history, and every history connects to something larger.

ORIGIN explores what happens when these fragments meet again — when different histories, materials and cultures are woven together to create something new while preserving traces of what came before.

It is an investigation into origin, identity, ownership and authenticity, questioning where things truly begin, who has the right to reinterpret culture, what happens when culture moves, and what we inherit from the past.

The work sits between research, fashion and contemporary art, using clothing and material as a means of investigating the systems, histories and cultural exchanges embedded within the objects we encounter every day.

Ultimately, it is about weaving together new stories and cultures while preserving old ones.

The garment is the research.
The material is the evidence.
The collection is the conversation.

Nothing here is new.

All materials and textiles used in this exhibition already existed.

No new fabric was created.

Each element used to create these garment have already contributed to society. They have travelled a journey and have a unique story to share.

They carry history, stories of repair and each part of the journey, is built into every piece.
