My name is Christopher Barrientos and I’m currently running for an officer role for the year 2024-25. My reason for running is a simple one. I believe that I hold the necessary skills and intuition to unleash the full potential of SLC and to continue the positive momentum we have as a community. My involvement in the Hunger Banquet and the Peer Mental Health Project has been providing support to team members by doing necessary tasks that contribute to an overall goal and bringing new ideas and perspectives to enhance our end goal. It is through working within these projects that I have gotten to truly appreciate the community here at COD. The talent, drive, and genuine care students have for each other here at COD is what inspired me to become more involved within our community. During High School, I served as the Treasurer of Tri-M and oversaw the budget, collecting membership dues, and fundraising money for our charter. I was also the lead Saxophone player for Concert, Marching, and Jazz Band which had me leading and coordinating 10-30 saxophone players at a time while teaching and mentoring new musicians. Furthermore, I was a Band Officer which required helping the band director managing the various bands. Recently, I have held a temporary supervisor position leading a department of 15 workers where I exceeded daily production quotas by streamlining production and restructuring the team to bring down the total time of assembly. My experience is heavily relevant to an officer role as a lot of the duties and responsibilities I had helped me acquire skills necessary for being a competent officer.
