Mike Farthing is a successful and respected coach in the cross country and track community. Between his experience coaching at Westmont and Downers Grove South high schools, here are some of his accomplishments:
- 2018 IHSA Girls 3A Cross Country State Finals - 3rd Place
- DGS Girls Cross Country team has finished top 5 in the state last 4 years (2016-present); 20th consecutive WSC Gold conference championship earned in 2018
- 2018 Girls Cross Country team finished at the fastest team in history with 17:17 average (1-5); 17:32.5 (1-7); 10 girls ran under 19 minutes
- Brenna Cohoon earned All-State Honors - 8th in 2018, 14th in 2019
- Erin Reidy earned All State Honors - 6th in 2019
- 2015 Girls State Track and Field Championships - 6th Place (Westmont)
- 2016 Girls State Track and Field Championships - 5th Place (DGS)
- Annie Carlson (Westmont '16) earned 9 All-State medals in hurdles, jumps, and sprints at 1A state meets
- Coached Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker (DGS '16) to all-state finishes in the 100 meter hurdles (14.01) and 100 meter dash (12.05). Shaliyah also ran 24.94 in 2016.
- Kyle Kasper (Westmont '18) triple jumped to a 8th place at 1A state meet in his first year competing in the event
- Assisted in coaching Maddie Manganiello (DGS '18) to school record 19'6" jump her sophomore year. Maddie qualified for the 3A IHSA state meet 4 years in a row
