Responding to the exam paper, I have chosen question 2 'Water'. Water has come in many forms such as; a liquid, gas (smoke/ condensation), and ice. It also creates quite interesting concept ideas from incorporating life with water textures/patterns.Â
With this project, I will experiment with the properties of water and how it can affect the atmosphere of a piece. Focusing more on incorporating water with traditional photography to produce various photographs which touch in the theme of water symbolism and physical traits of water, rather than focusing on the texture of plain water.
I plan on showcasing different properties and forms of water to create variety and an overall visually interesting portfolio. Primarily using a DSLR camera, I will produce a body of work which incorporates different properties and aspects of water. I will focus more on smaller details and incorporate using different lenses such as a macro lens to capture finer details such as bubbles or ripples created by water. Artists such as Rut Blees Luxemburg, who focuses on capturing physical reflections in puddles, incorporates water in her works by working with the natural environment and it's weather. However, water can be taken in a symbolic view like Nanna Kreutzmann, who produces mesmerising portraiture pieces, which incorporates the properties and visual aspects of water and combining it with portraiture.
I will gather a range of artists and inspiration which touches in different elements of water to assemble a strong portfolio which touches in the theme of Water. Artists such as Ziqian Liu, Lisa Sorgini, Candice Milon, and Nur Uretmen; with the additional works inspired by bubbles and cosmetic beauty advertisements.
By the end of this project, I will produce a series of high quality responses which relate to my chosen theme, finalising this project before starting the exam. Producing 100 well executed responses with 20 finalised high quality photographs which best reflects the artists and overall the theme of water. I will also print and create physical copies to be mounted and displayed.
