Incorporating properties of water with objects.
Water has been used to promate various products such as make up, as its symbolising or evoking the idea that it's refreshing and clean. It also used to promate products within a similar state such as liquid items - perfumes, liquid make up or soaps. With this I will focus on incorporating water and recreate a similar shoot of "promoting" products.
I will produce a series of responses similar to these examples. Using a mirrored flooring to give a sense of clearness - and also further pushing the idea of water as it creates reflections. I will also experiment with using water on a glass surface to create a more graphical/photoshop type look; spraying water on certain parts of the view to create a two toned effect.
This images shows a type of drink product placed on what seems to be "in the clouds".
Using a mirror to symbolise the view of water to reflect the image of the sky, water is then placed on the mirror in a random order to replicate puddles. It also adds more depth and shadows to the image.
The product itself isn't placed in the middle but is rather placed in a different view - being unable to see the full view. It gives the illusion that we have to see the full picture as we are stuck with only 3/4 of the drink.
The water in this image is placed in a diagonal line and is poured droplets at a time to create this abstract assortment of water "puddles". The drink is then placed on one of the rows of water to blend where the puddle would be.
Instead of using mirrors and reflections, I uses a glass panel which has been placed above the products. Covering certain parts of the image and spraying water on top to reveal this type of two toned view/screen. The water acts like a type of blue to focus our attention on the product - it also represents/symbolizes the product spray. The droplets of water varies in size with the smaller ones being confined in one space whilst the larger droplets are overlap and go over the edge.
I will also recreate responses similar to this, by using a glass screen and using a water spray bottle to mimic their style. Changing the angle and view of where
SETUP + PROCESS :
I focused more on using products which have a simple and minimal design for the packaging - and that has a set colour to easily match the background with.
EXPERIMENTAL 1 :
Using a large mirror, placing it outside when the sky is clear.
I levelled the surface by placed scraps of wood under the legs.
Place the product on the mirror.
Poured small amounts of water on the glass to create small puddles.
Used a pipette to create smaller puddles of water.
Taking the photograph at an angle.
EXPERIMENTAL 2 :
Coloured paper - A2 or A3 coloured paper and placed it on a flat surface (on the floor)
Placing two pillars/books on either side of the paper to be able to balance the panel of glass above.
Placing the products underneath the glass onto the middle of the paper.
Using paper/tape. Cover certain parts of the glass.
Fill the spray bottle with water, spray the glass at a high distance - so that the droplets of water will be small.
Remove the paper.
(optional) spray slightly more but at a closer angle to create bigger droplets.
Photographing directly above the glass - standing on a chair + using tripod
BRIDGE EDITING :
Cropped the images 4 x 3
Shifted the temperature to be on the cooler side.
Increased the contrast.
increased the black and lowered the whites + shadows.
Increased the vibrancy as the colours were too soft.
Reduced noise.
ADDITONAL :
SPOT HEALING TOOL
Removed smaller pockets of water and any marks/smudges on the mirror.
