Colorado FAMLI started Jan 1, 2024.
Employee paycheck deductions of .045% began Jan 1, 2023.
FAMLI stands for Family and Medical Leave Insurance.
Colorado FAMLI is a State-paid leave available to eligible Colorado workers when circumstances require them to miss work for one or more days in order to take care of themselves or their family members.
All DEN based Flight Attendants (including probationary new hires), regardless of how long they have been employed with United, are eligible if they have earned $2500 in gross wages that were subject to premium deductions in a closed calendar quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-May, Jun-Aug, Sep-Dec).
FAMLI may be taken as a Continuous (block) leave or as Intermittent leave (for chronic needs) for up to 12 weeks (additional 4 weeks for complications with pregnancy or childbirth).
FAMLI benefits are calculated on a sliding scale using the individual's average weekly wage from the previous five calendar quarters in relation to the average weekly wage for the state of Colorado. (See Benefits Payments and Calculator)
Commuters are eligible! You do not need to be a Colorado resident to be eligible for FAMLI, so long as you are based in DEN.
FAMLI covers serious health conditions for self/family members, parental bonding, pregnancy or childbirth complications, military family member's leave, and "safe" leave covers domestic abuse/sexual assault/stalking.
"Family member" is defined as anyone with whom the employee has a significant personal bond that is or is like a family relationship, regardless of biological or legal relationship.
All employees who take Colorado FAMLI leave are protected against employer retaliation and that includes: discipline, termination or any other adverse action by the employer. (Retaliation and Compliance Forms)
FAs must notify United of their need for time off by calling 800 FLT LINE and following prompts for a sick call and stating that they are "DEN based and using Colorado FAMLI leave for self/family member/other"
All FAMLI sick calls continue to roll until you call in well.
Employees must file a claim with Colorado, within 30 days after first day of work missed, through the My FAMLI+ online portal (claims up to 90 days are allowable in some cases with an explanation)
Claims are adjudicated, within 14 days, by the state and NOT by the United.
