My Readiness Reflections:

I have taken quite a few online courses myself and taught for several years online as well. The results I got from all three surveys did not surprise me. My study habits, ability to self-direct and computer skills are compatible with online learning. What bothered me a little is that none of the surveys addressed different online learning styles. In my case, I am a visual artist and also a visual learner. Most of my students are also visual learners. We learn better by watching videos, interpreting images, and doing interactive multimedia exercises. Teaching materials like these can be easily produced and implemented. It can take more time for visual learners to absorb text-heavy online materials. To mitigate the challenges for my students, I plan to design the majority of my teaching materials in video and image format. Also, I will use more interactive multimedia to introduce art and design concepts.
