WHAT EXTERNAL, UNEXPECTED FACTORS ARE LIMITING OUR PROGRESS?
In many instances, project delays, challenges or failures may be attributed to external, unexpected factors that are out of the team's control. It is useful to document these factors to fully understand the project context and outcomes. Examples of external, unexpected factors that may hinder project delivery include:
Environmental Events (wildlife disease, climate, extreme weather or other natural disasters)
War, conflict or insecurity (war or civil unrest restricting access to project sites)
Human-related disease (outbreaks of disease affecting humans and/or domesticated animals or plants)
Political change, corruption or conflicting government mandates
The purpose of this tool is to allow teams to easily track not only whether they have all the elements of a good strategic plan, but also elements of implementation efficiency, project support, and the delivery of outcomes and impact.
A standardized taxonomy of root causes of failure in conservation will help practitioners better identify, share, and learn from failure
