CMFT - Centre for Microbial and Fermentation Technology

A Centre of Excellence established in 2019 under MHRD-RUSA 2.0 at the Department of Microbiology, Osmania University aims to exploit various microbes and their properties. Various strategies to carry out research at the pilot-scale level via fermentation technology has been the main initiative of the centre. The centre harbours various high-end instruments to carry out quality research and it aims to develop products targeting the needs of society and to mitigate potential environmental issues by developing sustainable solutions. CMFT also deals with isolating and characterizing probiotic strains having various nutritional and therapeutic applications. The potential microbial candidates are developed into formulations that can be used as supplements, holding impactful market value. The other domain of centre deals with utilizing agro-industrial wastes and pollutants thereby converting them into useful and eco-friendly bioproducts. High-value products like Bioethanol and Biopolymers are of particular interest.

Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology was established in 1974 as an independent university department recognised by the UGC at Osmania University, Hyderabad had become the first-ever in entire south India among entire southern universities to offer M.Sc Microbiology. The department offers 2 years M.Sc course and PhD research degrees in Microbiology.
