Calculating your proper pay rate can seem daunting at first but the calculation is fairly simple when you know where to start.
You need to begin by determining your step placement on Part B of the Faculty Salary Schedule. When you are hired by the District, you can submit a Verification of Work Experience to determine your initial step placement. Your step placement is based on your level of education and your years of experience teaching.
After initial placement, you will be able to move up a step for every 18 Faculty Calculated A Hours (CAHs) you have taught. So, if you teach 6 CAH in for three semesters or the equivalent, you will move up one step.
If you are unsure of your current step placement, you can email HR directly to ask.
If you feel your initial step placement is not correct, you can contact the HR representative for part-time faculty via email to request a reevaluation as soon as the discrepancy is noticed. If you would like assistance drafting your communication with HR, contact your part-time faculty FA representative or any of the FA representatives from your college. HR may request additional documentation to support your reevaluation. In most cases a change in step placement will become effective the following semester from when the request is made.
Please see the Salary Schedules on HR’s website, and Articles 21G, 21H, and 21I of the Faculty Contract to find language around your specific situation.
If you have any questions, please contact your college’s FA Part-Time Representative (contact information can be found on the FA E-Board Contact Information).
