ClimbOn Support / How to Use
1. Create a Hiking Plan
Open the Plan tab and tap points on the map to create a route.
You can use this to:
• Set a start point, waypoints, and destination
• Check the planned route on the map
• Review estimated distance and elevation information
• Save the route as a hiking plan
Saved routes can be loaded later when starting a hike.
2. Import a GPX File
ClimbOn can import external GPX files.
When a GPX file is imported:
• The route is displayed on the map
• Large GPX files are simplified for smoother map performance
• Elevation data in the GPX file is used when available
• The route can be saved as a hiking plan
Very detailed GPX tracks may be automatically reduced in point count to keep the app responsive.
3. Save Offline Maps
Before entering the mountains, you can save map tiles for offline use.
Offline maps are useful when:
• Mobile signal is weak
• You want to reduce data usage
• You want to prepare before the hike
Offline maps do not guarantee full navigation availability. GPS, device battery, and saved map coverage still matter.
4. Use the Pre-Hike Checklist
Before starting a recorded hike, ClimbOn can show a pre-hike checklist.
The checklist helps you confirm items such as:
• Water
• Food
• Rain gear
• Warm clothing
• Headlamp
• Mobile battery
• First aid kit
• Paper map
• Emergency contact preparation
Water is recorded in liters, and food is recorded by number of meals. This information can also be included in emergency sharing messages.
5. Configure Checklist Templates
In Settings > Pre-Hike Checklist, you can choose or edit checklist templates.
Available templates include:
• Standard
• Low mountain
• High mountain
• Traverse
• Snow mountain
• Trail running
• River / fishing
• Custom 1
• Custom 2
• Custom 3
Each template can be customized by turning individual gear items on or off.
6. Set Emergency Contacts
In Settings > Emergency Contact, you can register emergency contact information.
This can be used to:
• Prepare SMS messages with the contact already selected
• Include emergency contact information in SOS support
• Create hiking plan sharing messages
ClimbOn does not send messages automatically. The final sending action must be performed by the user.
7. Start Recording a Hike
Open the Record tab to start tracking your hike.
Before recording starts, ClimbOn can show the pre-hike checklist. If you try to start recording without completing the checklist, a confirmation dialog will appear.
During recording, ClimbOn can show:
• Current location
• Route line
• Distance
• Elevation information
• Navigation-related information
• SOS support button
8. Finish a Recording
When you stop a recording, ClimbOn can save the recorded track as a GPX file.
After finishing, the app can also ask whether you want to send a completion message. This is useful for letting someone know that you have returned safely.
9. Restore an Unfinished Recording
If the app is closed during a recording, ClimbOn may offer to restore the unfinished recording the next time the app opens.
This helps prevent accidental loss of recorded hiking data.
10. Use SOS Support
The SOS screen is designed to help you quickly gather and share important information during an emergency.
It can show:
• Current coordinates
• Location accuracy
• Current time
• Route name
• Recording status
• Battery level
• Water and food information
• Checked and unchecked checklist items
• Emergency message text
You can use SMS or the share sheet to send information to others.
SMS messages are kept short because SMS has length limitations. The general share message contains more detailed information, including checklist and hiking preparation details.
11. Emergency Advice
The SOS screen also includes basic emergency action guidance, such as:
• Emergency phone numbers
• What to do if lost
• What to do after a fall or injury
• How to preserve body heat
• What to do in cold conditions
• What to do if encountering a bear
• How to conserve phone battery
ClimbOn is not an emergency rescue service. In a real emergency, contact police, fire, rescue services, or local authorities directly whenever possible.
12. Important Notes
ClimbOn is a hiking support app. It does not replace proper planning, maps, judgment, or emergency services.
Please always:
• Check weather conditions before hiking
• Carry appropriate gear
• Tell someone your plan
• Bring enough water and food
• Carry backup navigation tools
• Keep your phone battery charged
• Follow local rules and mountain safety guidance
GPS accuracy, map availability, communication, and device behavior may vary depending on terrain, weather, signal coverage, battery level, and device condition.
