Research on crops

One of the peculiarities of the Valley is its landscape diversity, since large mountain groups alternate with depressed basins between the mountains. This allows that in the centre of the mountainous depression of the Valley the temperature is always several degrees higher than expected due to its location and altitude.

These circumstances produce what could be called "The microclimate of the Lecrin Valley", a climate marked by the Mediterranean influence that, together with its depressed structure and totally surrounded by mountains, which protect the Valley from the cold winds of the North, as well as its Perpendicularity, allows a unique climate, to make the most of the sun rays and to soften the low temperatures of winter.

This climatic bonanza allows crops that are not typical of inland areas such as citrus or avocados, and also keeps them on the tree for longer as their fruits ripen a little later than in coastal areas. This is the only place in the entire province of Granada where citrus is grown.
