HISTORY

1959 – COMPANY ESTABLISHMENT

More than 50 years ago, the founder Roberto Marchesi established in Milan the first company for importing, transforming and distributing on the Italian market blocks of Polyether foam, an innovative material at the time for cushions, armchairs and sofas for the design industry.

1971 – HEADQUARTER AND PRODUCTION

The company transferred its operations to the Venetian region, in Carrè, setting up the first and the major manufacturing plant and Clerprem group’s future headquarter, becoming also one of the first Italian moulder of polyurethane cold cured foamed parts for automotive seatings.

1978 – FIRST JUST-IN-TIME PLANT

Near the Motown Turin, in Cumiana, the second manufacturing plant was set up for moulding armrests, headrests, backrests and seat foams for the automotive industry and granting just in time deliveries to local plants of Italian largest OEMS, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Ferrari, and Maserati.

’80s-’90s – PRODUCT AND MARKET DIVERSIFICATION

During the 80’s and 90’s Clerprem acquired new know-how and technologies and diversified into other product ranges producing office chairs, armchairs and also synthetic leather for footwear, travel bags for the fashion industry.

1991 – FIRST FOREIGN PLANT

Short after Germany’s reunification, the company took over an East German seats manufacturer for train coaches near Dresden, establishing Clerprem Deutschland and relocating assembly operations in a plant in Neustadt in Sa. for delivering just in time seats to the railway industry.

2000 – METAL STRUCTURES INTRODUCTION

Expanding its competencies, know-how and product range, the company set up a new plant in Atessa and introduced CNC-milling, tubing, robotized wire bending and MIG, TIG and Laser welding for seat frames and also aluminum die casting and powder coating.

2008 – EXPANDING OUTSIDE OF EUROPE

On the Mediterranean Sea, in Menzel Jemil, Clerprem Tunisie was established and specialized in polyurethane foaming, cutting and sewing fabric and genuine leather covers, robotized wire bending and welding, assembling seats parts for both automotive and railway industries.

2015 – APPROACH TO NORTH AMERICA

In Huamantla, in the state of Tlaxcala Clerprem Mexico was established for just in time delivering to nearby OEMs. The plant is specialized in PUR foaming, cutting and sewing of leather and fabric covers, upholstering and assembling of front and rear armrests and sidebolsters.

2018 – CALIFORNIA DREAMING

Clerprem USA was established in Sacramento, CA, for manufacturing seating systems for rail coaches and complying to Buy America’s criteria. The company is specialized in sustainable PUR foaming, cutting and sewing of leather and fabric covers, upholstering and assembling of seating systems.

TODAY

The family business is today in its second generation and operates in Europe, North Africa and North America and counts around 1,800 employees worldwide, for manufacturing and supplying premium class, seating systems, their components and services to improve customers’ experience and satisfaction in both automotive and railway industry.
