On March 3, 2005, Eisenhower Junior High School set a new world record: The World's Fastest Human Conveyor Belt. To establish the record for the World's Fastest Human Conveyor Belt, one hundred students transferred a mattress weighing 11.4 pounds over a distance of 180 feet in exactly two minutes and one second!
The rules for this record state that "During this record attempt one hundred or more people must pass a weighted object (usually a mattress) at least four feet long and weighing over ten pounds along a human conveyor belt that is 180 feet long as fast as possible. This weighted object must be passed by people lying flat on the ground who transfer the object as quickly as possible by rolling their bodies in the same direction while avoiding the use of their hands, arms, feet and legs. Heads and chins can be used to guide the object or keep it on course. If the object falls off onto the ground the attempt fails. The time of the event is based on when the front of the object crosses the starting point and later when the front of the object reaches the ending point, with the object having traveled 180 feet."
Eisenhower's new record for the World's Fastest Human Conveyor Belt was officially accepted by The Book of Alternative Records in Leipzig, Germany, on March 24, 2005.
