My experience at SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan has been enriched by the invaluable opportunity to observe and learn from Mrs. Sunartri S. Pd, who is known in school as "Bu Nartri" or "Bu Na", a guru (teacher) of chemistry in SMANCA. She is my resource teacher. I've had the privilege to witness the art of Indonesian teaching through the lens of such a seasoned educator like her.
Bu Nartri begins to prepare for teaching by checking the curriculum and aligning the learning objectives with the lesson plans in consideration of bridging it with the previous lesson. She also considers the students' individual needs and abilities, ensuring that the teaching strategies and materials are appropriate for their diverse learning styles.
My resource teacher prepares the lesson with a plan that includes clear objectives, relevant content, and engaging activities. She navigates the pages in the book that her students have where the content she will teach is located. She then gathers and creates materials that support the lesson, such as handouts, visual aids like presentations and diagrams, or multimedia resources. The teacher also incorporates hands-on activities to enhance student engagement and understanding. After securing the materials, the teacher checks if the code and quiz link she prepared for the assessment is working.
She enters the room with enthusiasm and greets her students with a warm smile. Bu Nartri begins the class by reviewing the previous lesson, ensuring that her students have a solid foundation before moving on to new material. Throughout the lesson, she used Indonesian as the language of instruction. Bu Nartri encourages active participation and discussion among her students as they altogether have the chance to share thoughts or mention instances or examples related to the lesson at hand. The teacher ensures to address any misconceptions or difficulties the students may have.
This is a photo of me with Bu Nartri when she gave me Tenun, an Indonesian handwoven cloth, as a gift. It is a beautiful piece of art that showcases the rich culture and craftsmanship of Indonesia. I am truly grateful for this thoughtful gesture and it will serve as a reminder of my teacher's support and encouragement in my learning journey.
By emphasizing the appropriate use and consumption of chemicals and materials, Bu Nartri integrates the teaching of fundamental Indonesian values into her lessons. Every action has an impact on the environment and has the potential to greatly contribute to climate change and global warming - by doing this, she upholds the Indonesian value of the love of nature and the environment and teaches students the significance of being environmentally conscious as one of the traits of responsible citizenship.
I have observed that Bu Nartri mostly uses Quizziz, an online platform, to assess the students' understanding of the lesson. She creates interactive quizzes that allow the students to answer questions and receive real-time feedback. During the discussion period, formative assessment is mostly done through recitations, worksheets, and activities.
The cultural richness embedded in every lesson and the skill of Bu Nartri's pedagogy has motivated and inspired me to provide a transformational learning experience. I've gained more from my observational expedition than just techniques; I've learned the core principles of fostering an environment where learning goes beyond textbooks. My resource teacher's lessons will certainly influence my approach, enhancing my teaching journey in ways that words alone cannot express.
