What we do

Halifax Civic Trust is an active organisation striving to safeguard and improve the local environment. It is run by a committee which makes representation on many issues, ranging from wildlife corridors and footpaths to highway schemes, threatened historic buildings, local development plans and, especially, on planning applications.

Can we help you?

Many of our past and current issues have been brought to our attention by members of the public, and we welcome input from anyone concerned by potentially damaging or inappropriate developments. Indeed, we rely on people to be our eyes and ears around town, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you think we can help.

Halifax Civic Trust's aims are:

  • To stimulate public interest in and care for the beauty and changing character of Halifax and its surroundings

  • To secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of both historic and current public interest in the area

We do this by:

  • Encouraging high standards of architecture and planning in the Halifax area

  • Arranging events

  • Being represented on relevant bodies and committees

  • Campaigning against inappropriate developments
