With robust progress towards the Detroit River’s revival, Peche Island Day provides committed partners with an opportunity to share remediation stories and celebrate successes with the public. Offerings include free boat rides to and from Lakeview Marina/Peche Island, sponsored by the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup. Guests can explore the island on foot, check out some educational displays and activities hosted by partners and attend a few hikes led by City of Windsor staff.
Anyone interested can reserve a spot by calling (519) 255-1161. Pets and larger personal items such as bikes are not permitted due to safety and capacity concerns. Guests are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to sign a waiver, review two safety videos, and be fitted for a personal flotation device (PFD), which is required to be worn on the boat. Visitors are encouraged to reserve a spot. Walk-ons will be permitted on a first-come first-serve basis but cannot be guaranteed.

This event will be held at the Windsor Yacht Club (9000 Riverside Drive east, Windsor, ON) starting at 6pm. It’s free to the public and includes guest speakers highlighting achievements and project updates the DRCC partnership accomplished in the last year. The 2024/25 annual report and DRCC's Pathway to Delisting document will also be launched at the event.

Drawing on a decade of research about the Thirty Meter Telescope sited for construction atop Mauna Kea on Hawaiʻi Island, this presentation explores how technoscientific desires for discovery in outer space depend upon the conquest of Indigenous people and their sacred land on Earth. However, Native Hawaiians have successfully prevented the development due to decades of direct action and legal activism. The presentation considers Canadian involvement in the project and ongoing forms of legal noncompliance concerning Indigenous rights in Hawaiʻi.

The University of Windsor National Urban Park Hub is excited to announce the launch of their Park Talks series! Join them for a series of engaging and insightful discussions led by their Co-Principal Investigators, Dr. Catherine Febria (Healthy Headwaters Lab), Dr. Anneke Smit (Windsor Law Centre for Cities), and Professor Clint Jacobs (Indigenous Knowledge Table), along with guest speakers.
This series will explore the core objectives of the National Urban Park Program—conserving Nature, connecting people with Nature, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples—and their relationship with Windsor's new National Urban Park.
Come be part of these meaningful conversations and learn more about how the objectives of the National Urban Park Program relate to the proposed National Urban Park in Windsor.

The State of the Strait is a binational (Canada-United States) collaboration that hosts a meeting every two years to bring together government managers, researchers, students, environmental and conservation organizations, and concerned citizens. Participants work to understand historical ecosystem conditions and assess current ecosystem status in order to achieve a better future for the Detroit River and western Lake Erie.
