This project is about understanding how social media affects both society and me personally. It looks at social media use, addiction, and overall impact based on research and personal reflection
My results from the social media addiction quiz showed that I am fairly reliant on social media, but not as much as some other people. The results mentioned that many adults spend over 8 hours a day on screens and about 4 hours on smartphone apps, mostly social media. I think this is accurate because I do spend a lot of time on my phone, especially scrolling through apps when I’m bored. Even though I’m not extremely addicted, this made me realize that I could still cut back on my screen time. Overall, the results made me think more about my habits and how I can manage my time better.
One interesting statistic from Pew Research Center is the fact that Greater shares of Americans visit Facebook and YouTube daily than other sites. which is crazy to me because I'm used to intagram and tiktok but seeing this, it makes me think of how much screen time kids get now a days. also About half of U.S. adults say they visit each of these platforms at least once a day. This includes 37% who visit Facebook several times a day, and 33% who say the same of YouTube.
I think social media has both positive and negative effects on society. On the positive side, it allows people to stay connected, share information quickly, and express themselves. However, it can also lead to problems like distraction, misinformation, and mental health issues. Many people compare themselves to others online, which can lower self-esteem. Overall, I think social media is helpful, but people need to use it responsibly and not let it take over their lives.
From this project I've learned new statistics about social media and how my contribution effects me when it comes to addiction with social media. overall the lesson learned for me, Is now nowing how how social media can bring people together but at the same time tear us apart because there so many different expirences and perspectives from the internet.
