Access to Canvas will be available the day before classes start.
We will use Khan Academy to complete the Computer basics assignments.
Khan Academy is free to use however you will need to create an account. Instructions for accessing Khan Academy are located on the Canvas home page.
You will use an eText for the Office Applications assignment, the eText is included in MyLab IT course materials. The access code for enrolling in your MyLab IT course can be purchased from the bookstore for approximately $140 ISBN: 8220132918352 , it is also available online during registration for approximately $100. You will register for MyLab IT on the first day of class. MyLab IT includes access to the course assignments, resources and the eText.
To access MyLab IT click on the "MyLab and Mastering" tab in the left menu bar of Canvas, then click on the orange “Open MyLab & Mastering” link.
From the MyLab IT home page select “Assignments", here you will see a full list of assignments including the assignment due date and course resources including the eText, audio PowerPoints and videos. You do not have to print your assignments - MyLab IT will track all of your work. Course activities will only be accepted when submitted using the assignment link in MyLab IT, unless otherwise specified by your instructor.
The first time you click on the “MyLab and Mastering” tab you will be prompted to register in MyLab IT. A window will open prompting you to follow the registration instruction. If you do not have your registration code and cannot purchase it while registering, you can select the option to register using a 14-day trial.
If you have any problems with MyLab IT contact MyLab IT technical support by going to the www.myitlab.com home page, clicking ‘Support’ on the middle box under ‘Students’. This web page includes lots of great information as well as a phone number you can use specifically for MyLab IT student issues. Your instructor is not able to resolve issues with your home computer and/or MyLab IT.
You can register for no cost in MyLab IT with temporary access for the first 14 days. You will need the following information to complete the registration and enrollment process:
Set username and password the same as that used in Canvas for best results.
The e-mail address you use on a regular basis (Although SCC students are provided an e-mail account through Bigfoot, you can use any e-mail address for MyLab IT registration)
You must use Office 2021 (the installed version of Office 365) to complete many of the assignments in the class. Office 365 will not work, it does not have all the required options. Older versions of Office will not work for this class.
As a student at SCC you have free access to Office 365/2021 using your SCC bigfoot account.
To access Office 365/2021 👈log in with your SCC bigfoot email username and password. Bigfoot Email Info 👈
Once logged into Office 365 you can download Office 2021 by clicking on "Install Apps" in the top right corner of the window. Then select the top "Microsoft 365 apps" option.
You will need a computer that you can download Office 2021 on to complete assignments in this class. Notebook computers that do not have a hard drive will not work as they do not allow you to install programs on them.
A Mac Book will work for all but three assignments in the class, Microsoft does not make the Access program for the MAC OS, therefore the three assignments that require Access will have to be completed on a PC with the Windows OS.
College lab computers are available for your use. Additionally, there are laptops available in the library for checkout. Your username and password are required to access all college computers. Your username and password are comprised of your name and SID (Student ID). Information to determine your username and password to login to the college computers is displayed on the home screen of each computer on campus.
The first time you login to a SCC computer, you will have to change your password. Select a password that you will easily remember and be sure to write it down in a secure place in case you forget it!!! If you should forget your password, you must e-mail http://stuhelpdesk.spokane.edu👈, provide your name/SID, and request them to reset your password. Your instructor cannot find or reset your password.
Lab hours for the college computer labs are posted in each lab and may vary each quarter.
Building 1 room G114B is the CIS 110 computer lab, it is open from 7:30 to 3 M-Th.
You will need access to high-speed Internet (Broadband or DSL preferred) or come to campus to use college lab computers.
Chrome is the required browser for this class. Popup blocker must be disabled for all MyLab IT websites.
