CIS110 Introduction to Computer Applications covers basic principles of computers and practical business application software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and operating system software.ย Software emphasized will be Microsoft Office 365/2021 and Microsoft Windows 10/11.ย
A willingness to learn is the only true prerequisite however cursor manipulation, typing skills, viewing documents, saving files, sending e-mail and general comfort with computers is highly desirable.ย If you do not have these skills, let's discuss what additional effort will be needed for you to pass this class.
I offer both online and hybrid sections of CIS 110. Regardless of your class type, all materials are available in Canvas ๐and MyLab IT on the first day of class.
Online classes: No meeting times, resources including voice over PowerPoints, eText and videos are available in MyLab IT.
Hybrid: Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-11:20 in building 1 room G114B with remaining time online. Attendance is optional, coursework can be completed online or in class.
ย You are expected to participate in the class daily M-F.
This course uses Canvas ๐and MyLab IT as the classroom management software to deliver assignments and proficiency tests. Access to MyLab IT is integrated with Canvas ๐, thus you will use Canvas ๐ to access your course materials located MyLab IT. There are specific due dates for assignments and tests however late assignments are not penalized. All due dates are listed on the assignment in MyLab IT and DO NOT show up in the Canvas ๐ calendar, please mark your calendar so that you are prepared to meet these specific due dates. A printable due date schedule is available on the Canvas ๐ Home page. Assignments are encouraged to be submitted before the due date if possible, however if you are having difficulties completing the work by the due date, please contact me to make arrangements for late work. You are expected to work on course work approximately 15 hours per week, if there is a week day that does not have an assignment due that is because the next assignment is expected to take longer to complete.
