"This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student." This standard provides that the classroom is not the teacher at the front lecturing information to their students. The classroom is a unique collection of students where we can find creative ways to deliver instruction based on non-traditional subjects. Demonstrating basketball knowledge can be done outside of a gym and using technology and different tools. By finding different ways for students to show their knowledge in PE class, the non-athlete possibly finds comfort that they don't have to demonstrate the skills with their person. They can demonstrate the skills by using technology and the teacher engages all students.
Basketball fulfills IL Learning Standard for Physical Education and Health 19.C.2a and 19.C.2b by identifying the various concepts of the basketball game, explaining how the game is scored whether a free throw, beyond the three point arc or inside the three point arc. Basketball is a physical activity to keep kids fit as players run up and down the court. The students learn that two teams play against one another with one on offense and the other on defense. There is only 5 players per team on the court at a time and the lesson identifies the player positions with their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, the students learned there are violations that can occur during the course of the game and in some cases result in a chance to score from the free throw line. Basketball is a team sport that can represent a school or city but also something that can be played in a driveway or at a park if a basketball hoop is present. This represents a simple way to stay active, get fresh air and soak in some vitamin D.

I used this standard to support the lesson of teaching the different management functions and styles that support those functions. "The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning." This lesson uses visual imagery of a farm picture where students identify different items that start with the letter F. The students complete this individually and create a list of words starting with "F". Next the student pairs up with a classmate where they share their lists to see if there are "F" words that were not on their original list. This creates a longer list. Finally we share as a class the results of words in the picture and we find there are even new ones to add to their lists. This demonstrates we each bring different views and perceptions of the same picture and that the whole team can bring about new views of the same situation.
This lesson showed that our perceptions impact what we think and interpret which can lead to the growth and culture of different management styles. The lesson showed the three management styles and what each perspective was brought with the style. We discussed how different management styles can be effective in varied situations to bring out the best result. As with perception, it is the eye of the beholder and we must work as one to also trust one another. We can also show that these different management styles are not just in the business world but can work in the school environment too. This demonstrates to the students that management styles are universal and used in various personal and work situations to help attain a goal.
