My personal art practice is concerned with looking at how we interact with our physical environment, how we are living on the earth today and what legacy we will leave for future generations. Through hand sewing and mending, using repurposed, everyday, and wild materials, I explore how handwork, in particular, helps us to connect with the world we live in, in a more meaningful way, and to contemplate these questions through storytelling with thread.
I work through the medium of repurposed and heritage textiles, using embroidery and mending techniques. I am particularly interested in heritage crafts and what we can learn from them today as we figure out how to navigate today's challenging world. I am drawn to reusing textiles for making meaning, exploring our personal history through textiles already in our possession, or rescuing (and reusing) textiles that are no longer deemed of value.
