This module (COM203) is part of my Communications minor taken during my final year. The module provides theoretical and practical knowledge of contemporary media texts, emphasising visual elements. Students will learn critical tools like semiotics to analyse meanings in various formats. The course aims to help students develop the ability to decode, analyse, and evaluate media messages, highlighting the role of media texts in shaping our self-perception, understanding of others, and worldview.
Through this module, I developed the capacity to critically analyse and understand visual texts' various meanings and interpretations, ranging from news reports and photographs to television programs, films, and advertisements. This skill is particularly valuable in marketing, where decoding and comprehending visual messages are essential for crafting effective and impactful campaigns. By gaining insights into how visual elements contribute to meaning construction, I am better equipped to create marketing strategies that resonate with target audiences and effectively communicate brand messages.
