About the project
Summer Break is an academic project of a serious game that tried to recreate the social anxious sensations and pass lessons between. Made in Unity and in 6 months.
General information
Genre: Serious games, adventure.
Platform: PC.
Age Group: Everyone.
Engine: Unity.
Find and apply a mechanic that could pass that vibe was very difficult, but, nothing is impossible! After a lot of research, I and my team find a way to do it work. Using an indicator of anxiety and a breath minigame, trying to simulate the proccess of anxiety crisis and teaching a way to deal with that (and that's a way recommended by psychologists, so really works. But, we can never forget, nothing works equal for everybody, so, if you get an anxiety crisis or have some syntoms of that, search about a psychologists to know how way is better for you).
My contribution
I've acted in this project as a Game Designer, Level Designer, and Programmer, but, my main hole was as programmer.
Progreamming: How was my first academic project, I wasn't used to program, and I was the only programmer on the group, I'd had a lot of difficults with it, so I've had to learn and do the entire project from zero. I've used an external asset for the dialogues and learned how to program all movement and interaction of the character.
Game Design: We've had to pass to the player, for some way, the sensation of social anxiety, and teach how to deal with it. For this, with the team, I tried to use the narrative and mechanic to induce the state we wanted, making the player pass throught unconfortable situations and deal with it using thecniques and exercises indicated by psychologists. So, mixing narrative ad gameplay elements, we tried to pass the climate of an anxiety crisis and a way of solution.
Level Design: How I was the programmer, I ended staying with the work of building the levels. I build the maps and programmed the interactions and gameplay flow, following the narrative script I and the team have created. And I used the dialogues for a intuitive tutorial that could to secure the player attention and not break with the flow.
