GINGERBREAD HOUSE COMPETITION
Before December break, we would invite Stuyvesant students (while strongly encouraging freshmen) to an all-expenses covered gingerbread house competition in the Stuyvesant cafeteria. Ingredients, such as pre-baked gingerbread dough, candies, icings, fondant, and modeling chocolate, would be provided by the Student Union. Competitors, grouped at tables, would have one hour and 30 minutes to fully prepare their gingerbread displays. Afterwards, student judges would rank the gingerbread houses based on attractiveness, taste, and creativity. This event would be a fun way for students to both celebrate the holiday season and become closer to the Stuyvesant community.
STUDENT OLYMPICS
A form of athletic competition, Stuyvesant Olympics would pit student against student following the basic program of the Olympic Games. Sporting events would include running, basketball, soccer, and others. Away from the field of play, these Olympics would use a variety of fun and interactive activities, workshops, and team-building exercises to give the participating athletes the opportunity to learn about Olympic values and develop the skills to improve their training methods and performance. The Olympics would take place in June as a way to provide fun activities to students at the end of the school year.
CULTURE DAY
We encourage the creation of culture days at Stuy. Culture Day would be an in-school and after school event that involves students from different cultures bringing in food, clothing, and small artifacts to school during the month of April. Students would give presentations during their free periods and lunch periods in designated rooms. Students may perform dances, acts, or teach the Stuyvesant community a few words in a different language. These days would not only expose students to new traditions and ideas, but would also encourage them to think critically about the world they live in. Stuyvesant is a very diverse school, and our students should take pride in that.
BACK IN TIME DAY
We know that many students are put under a lot of pressure during their freshman year and that some students want to go back to the times when they were younger. Hence, as your freshmen presidents, we would like to dedicate an after school day in March to transport students back into their time as elementary school students. We'll let them watch their childhood tv shows and movies, play board games, play Roblox, snuggle in their pajamas, and do other activities! This helps students destress, and if requested, we will group students together to encourage friendship building.
Please note that these events are not official. However, as your freshman caucus presidents, we will do everything we can to ensure that there will be frequent events that will help you all enjoy your freshman year at Stuyvesant.
