You will randomly be placed in small groups throughout the semester. Together, you and your partners will answer thought provoking questions.
A typical format would be as follows: The first team to come up with a good answer will receive 2 extra credit points each towards the next exam. The second team has the opportunity for 1.5 points, the third for 1 pts, etc. The questions will mainly encompass material covered since the most recent incentive.
Extra credit on exams
Journal Club
One journal article will be discussed this semester.
You must read the paper prior to taking each part of the quiz and coming to class. Your goal is to familiarize yourself with the paper, one quick read-through is not sufficient. I also anticipate that some terms and concepts will be confusing and that you will look into other resources for understanding these prior to coming to the discussion. You may need to outline ideas or sketch out relationships discussed within the paper. Simply highlighting / underlining passages is not sufficient.
Two part pre-quiz. 3% of final grade
Your participation in the discussion. 3% of final grade
Post-discussion assignment. 2% of final grade
