Chinwe Chigbu (b.1994), a self-taught contemporary artist, navigates diverse mediums, focusing on lens-based art, performance, and experimentation. Her creations are inspired by life’s entirety, Arts, Tech, personal experiences, Mysticism/The Occult, everyday materials, the Universe, Mother Nature, and humanity.
Aiming to preserve her wealthy African heritage while advocating for Black African women and underrepresented groups, she delves into themes of identity, spirituality, and femininity, unraveling mysteries and disrupting norms and stereotypes. Merging art, technology, and societal impact, Chinwe inspires authenticity and innovation while fostering positive change globally.
With a background in International Relations and Political Science, she embarked on her professional journey in 2017, exhibiting globally, selected as Access ART X Prize Finalist 2023 and Artist-in-Residence in Black Rock Senegal 2022. Awarded the second runner-up in the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Arts 2020, Chinwe Chigbu, currently based in Nigeria, continues expanding her artistic horizons.
