I remember an English class as a second language when I was 6th grade in elementary school. An elementary school teacher and assistant language teacher (ALT: Native English Speaker) taught us "basic English vocabularies (information)" and "Basic conversation (skill)" through small conversation with ALT. I remember that some students who had learned English before the class could speak English fluently. On the other hand, students who had never learned English before the class could not catch up with them. However, we did not have the pre-test to check each student English skill beforehand, so everyone needed to join the same class without considering each students English skills.
I took Speech Analytics class when I was an undergraduate student in university. An associate professor, a professional in linguistics, taught us "The basic knowledge of Speech Analytics (information)" and "How to analyze speeches with a software (skills)". I was going to major linguistics in graduate school, so I took the class. I remember that students needed to read a lot of articles and books related to the class and shared and discussed interesting topics with the other students in the class. The associate professor sometimes gave us advice during the discussion. I did not need to memorize knowledge of speech analytics, but needed to prove the skill to analyze speech properly.
Last month, I joined "Google Workshop (https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage/)" to learn digital marketing because I was in charge of webmaster in my workplace. In the course, I could learn “how to use social media for digital marketing (skill)” and “The role of advertisement (information)”. This course was provided through online and there was no teacher, no deadline, and no collaborative works. Therefore, I could finish lessons when I had time on my own space. In the course, I could skip some lessons which I had learned in the other courses if I could pass the test. Through this online course, I could learn "The basic knowledge of digital marketing". However, I did not have a chance to apply acquired knowledge to the real situation.
