Global Education empowers students to connect content in the classroom to real-world challenges. Students are encouraged to think locally by exploring local history, myths, and legends, and directly partner with community organizations to engage in activities that benefit the neighborhood surrounding their school. This approach allows students to gain a deep understanding of their environment and be prepared to take meaningful action within their communities now and long after high school graduation. Below is a video from North-South Centre of the Council of Europe that provides an overview about the concept of Global Education.Â
It is important to teach Global Education because it broadens a student's lens beyond their own school community, neighborhood, and city they live in. By studying global issues, students begin to recognize struggles like dehumanization are interconnected—existing both within their own communities and across international borders.
