Global Competence is a set of 21st-century skills students need to navigate in an increasingly interconnected world. Educators who use this framework empower students to bridge the gap between local community challenges and complex international issues. Also, students learn to analyze diverse perspectives and develop the agency needed to take meaningful action as independent leaders at local and global levels. For more information, watch the video below from World Savvy that discusses the idea of Global Competence.
It is important to teach Global Competence because it helps students realize that our world is interconnected. By studying global issues, students recognize that many challenges—from climate change to economic shifts—are shared experiences across borders.
This instruction also focuses on teaching students that every story matters and understanding the culture and history of others is the key to navigating relationships and fostering a deeper sense of mutual respect and empathy for others.
