By definition, Environmental sensitivities (ES), also called Chemical or Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, is a condition where your body is in a hyper reactive state to a number of pollutants/toxins in your environment. These can range from a variety of foods, to pollutants, cosmetics, chemicals, industrial cleaners, and more. To break it down, environmental sensitivities are essentially allergies to a variety of substances which one wouldn't think of as typical allergens. Environmental sensitives covers pollens, molds, and food allergies to be sure, but it also goes into several other allergens
Why work with people who have so many different conditions? How many people really have environmental sensitivities?
Environmental sensitivity is an uncommon diagnosis and not very well known by most medical practitioners. If you have environmental sensitivities you are unlikely to go into anaphylaxis like someone who is severely allergic to peanuts. However, just because the immediate reaction may not be life threatening doesn't mean sensitivities are not harmful. They can impair your ability to think and work, your motivation may plummet, it may be difficult to regulate your emotions, and all of these reactions can have significant impacts on your quality of life.
With all the ways we expose ourselves to various pollutants which can adversely affect us it is my view that environmental sensitivity overlaps with and can influence a number of complex, but more well known conditions such as Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Neurodivergence, Chron's, IBS, Diabetes, Alzheimer's, Anxiety, Parkinson's, and others.
