Fridges

If your local Community Fridge isn't open and you need to access food from elsewhere, there are a number of other venues around the county, and in neighbouring Nottinghamshire and Rutland. Many of these provide food free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Others may provide heavily discounted produce.

To help you identify these, and find your way to them, we've put together a list of other Community Fridge venues operating within ca 20 miles of Loughborough. You'll find details of these, including addresses and opening times, in the Excel Table below. Links are provided in the first column of the table to their websites or Facebook pages where available.

To make life a little easier when trying to get to an alternative fridge venue, we've also included a Google Maps plan of all the venues listed.  Since this is a GMaps rendering generated using the 'MyMaps' app, you can use all the usual functionality of the GMaps app including directions, distance measurement and additional searches.  (If you'd like a copy of the Excel workbook to refer to offline, click the sheet to reveal the options menu and use the 'Share' option to email a copy to yourself). Please note that these venues are all county-based - interestingly none of the 3 major cities closest to Loughborough in the East Midlands region, including Leicester itself, currently have community fridge programmes associated with their own Family Hubs. Such venues as there are are independently run, usually by local charities. 

Leicestershire also seems to be the only County Council running such a programme in the region; there are however independently-run fridges in Oakham and Uppingham for those who wish to venture a bit further afield and visit the UK's smallest county, Rutland. Melton's CF venture unfortunately closed in January of last year, leaving the North East Leics. somewhat devoid of venues.

These details are correct as far as we know at 3.10.26, but before you invest time and effort in turning up in person at another venue in person, please check either online or by phone with the venue itself whether they are operating as planned. This is particularly relevant over holiday periods.
