💬 MODEL CONVERSATION - short
Child: Did you have a mobile phone?
Grandparent: No, I didn’t.
Child: How did you communicate with your friends?
Grandparent: I wrote letters and I used the telephone.
Child: Did you watch TV?
Grandparent: Yes, I did.
Child: Did you use the internet?
Grandparent: No, we didn’t.
Child: Grandma, did you have a mobile phone when you were young?
Grandparent: No, I didn’t. We didn’t have mobile phones at that time. We only had one telephone at home, and we shared it with the whole family.
Child: How did you communicate with your friends?
Grandparent: I usually wrote letters or called them on the telephone. Sometimes I visited them after school because we lived near each other.
Child: Did you send messages like we do now?
Grandparent: No, we didn’t send messages. That technology didn’t exist. If I wanted to talk to a friend, I had to call or meet them in person.
Child: What did you do in your free time?
Grandparent: I played outside with my friends. We rode our bikes and talked for hours. We didn’t spend time online because there wasn’t any internet.
Child: Did you watch TV every day?
Grandparent: Not really. We watched TV in the evening, but we only had two channels. Programs were very different from today.
Child: When did you first use the internet?
Grandparent: I first used the internet when I was an adult. It was very slow, but it was exciting!
Child: Do you think communication was better or worse in the past?
Grandparent: It was different. It was slower, but people spent more time together face to face. Today communication is faster, but sometimes people don’t talk in person as much.
