City of Maastricht
Nestled along the banks of the River Meuse, Maastricht is one of the oldest and most enchanting cities in the Benelux. Its medieval character and city walls are well preserved, and is often dubbed one of the most beautiful cities of the Netherlands. Maastricht lies central in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine, and is a symbol of European unity and integration as the host city of the Maastricht Treaty and the creation of the Euro. As the capital of Limburg, it plays an important role in this unique region, with its atypical and tumultuous history, culture and language. On its streets you encounter a vibrant mix of (among others) English, Dutch, French, German, and the native Limburgish language.
