The Fracture Mechanics Laboratory at IIT Ropar solves structural-integrity problems for components that operate at the edge of their limits gas-turbine disks, nuclear pressure tubes, dissimilar-metal welds, and high-temperature power-plant parts. Our research is independent of material and can be used on any type of material including polymers, ceramics, biomaterials, glasses etc. Led by Dr. Abhishek Tiwari, the lab pairs full-scale experimental testing with advanced finite-element and damage modelling to predict when, where, and why materials crack and how to make them last longer. We partner with strategic and industrial organisations across the nuclear, aerospace, and power sectors.
