Gods
Religion was very important to the Mesopotamian culture. Each Mesopotamian city had their own patron god or goddess that they worshiped. Priestesses were very important because of how they lived life with high worship. Whenever someone needed help with something or had a problem, they would go to the priest to get help. People had to enter the underworld through their graves when they died. First they had to cross a river on a ferry, then their souls would be judged by another god, Utu. If they have good judgment, then they get eternal happiness in the afterlife but if they do bad judgement, then they do not go to heaven. This is why Mesopotamians worship a lot because they want to have good judgement in the afterlife.
Although gods were powerful, they acted alot like humans. They fought, drank, and ate, and although they were immortal, they could still be paradoxically killed,in a way to understand. These gods also had children who became gods later in their life. (KF)

Religious Practice
Mesopotamians performed “magical” rituals according to the texts that have been found. They performed these rituals on a daily or yearly basis, depending on what the ritual was. They needed to perform these rituals or else they thought that their god or goddess would curse them or punish them for not worshiping on a daily basis. (KF)
